How to Ask for a BumpToday I want to talk about increasing your commission rate by asking for a bump. If you’re already pushing quite a few sales to a specific affiliate program or product then perhaps it’s time to ask for a pay raise?

In the traditional workforce you ask your boss for a raise when you are performing well. Well in the affiliate world if you’re sending some steady sales to an affiliate program then you’re more than entitled to ask them for a commission raise!

Most networks want to keep their performing affiliates happy and if this means giving them a commission bump then they’re often more than happy to do so.

Send your affiliate manager an email…

The best and easiest way to get a bump is simply to get in contact with your affiliate manager and ask for one. Let them know that you are keen to continue sending them sales and would like to aim even higher but that a commission bump would help you to really move forward.

Play the networks against each other…

Just like you might “shop around” when purchasing something to get the best deal you might also want to shop around some of the different networks out there.

If there are a few different programs that allow you to promote the same offer then send them each an email saying something along the lines of:

“Hey I’ve currently got [such and such niche] traffic and am sending regular sales to X program. I’m currently looking for a network that can offer be a better commission rate though and would consider switching all of my links over to you guys if the commission was high enough. What would be the highest commission rate you could offer?”

Chances are they will get back to you with a better deal than the one that you’ve currently got. When they do then just email your current network with something like this…

“Hey. I really like working with your network but I’ve just been offered a commission rate of X% from X network and I don’t think I can really turn it down unless you can offer a higher commission. I’d love to keep promoting your program but I really need a bump to make it a viable option for me to stay with you guys!”

By doing this you’ll be able to find out which network is willing to offer the highest commission by sending a few quick emails.

Wait until you’ve got leverage…

Whatever you do don’t start sending your affiliate managers a message begging for a bump the moment you make your first sale. You need to wait until you’ve got some decent traffic and conversions flowing to their affiliate program before they’re going to want to give you a commission bump.

Once you are sending a decent number of sales then it’s a win-win situation for both parties. You get more money and they keep their affiliate happy and encourage them to promote their stuff even harder.

If you don’t ask, you don’t get…

Sometimes you just wont be able to get a commission bump no matter how badly you want it. It could be because the profit margins are literally already so small that there is no room for an increase or it could just be because your affiliate manager is a tight ass.

But whatever the case nobody is going to bite your head off for asking.

So always ask. If you don’t ask, you don’t get.
